James M. Galan, B.A., J.D., L.L.B.

Founder, Managing Partner

Mr. Galan is a courtroom litigator who provides fair, aggressive and professional representation to individuals who are injured by the negligence of others.  He fights against insurance companies to protect the rights of victims and has recovered millions of dollars for his clients.

Mr. Galan was awarded the Ontario Scholar Award by the Province of Ontario, prior to obtaining his Bachelors Degree at the University of Toronto, St. George Campus.  He studied Spanish at the University of Malaga and the University of Havana.  He obtained a United States and Canadian Law degree at Michigan State University, College of Law and University of Ottawa Law School. At Michigan State University, he was awarded the Jurisprudence Achievement Award for that school’s Competitive Negotiation Class.

Mr. Galan appeared at hundreds of Superior Court matters. He regularly appears at contested and uncontested motions and at other levels of the court process, including the Court of Appeal and as lead counsel at a personal injury Jury Trial. Among his achievements, he won against an insurance company that tried to prevent his client from obtaining compensation when his client was injured outside Canada (Iglesias v. Brown, 2009 CanLII 41360 (ON SC)). The Court ordered the Insurance company to pay the plaintiff’s costs. He won against an insurance company that attempted to transfer his clients’ cases to another jurisdiction to obtain a tactical advantage. The Court ordered the Insurance company to pay Mr. Galan’s costs (Chen et al. v. Ji, 2013 ONSC 7408). He won against an insurance company that attempted to prejudice his clients’ right to a fair trial (Guo v. Ji, 2013 ONSC 7684 (CanLII). The Court ordered the Insurance company to pay Mr. Galan’s costs. Mr. Galan’s firm won against a Defendant that improperly delayed his client’s case for compensation (Duong et. al. v. Lopez, CV-11-428239).  The Court ordered the Defendant to pay Mr. Galan’s costs. Mr. Galan’s firm won another motion where his firm secured a $3,500 cost award against a defendant insurer. Mr. Galan has also won his seventh consecutive Tribunal Hearing.

In addition to a well trained staff, Mr. Galan implemented a Barristers Group of experienced counsel to collaborate in complex trial litigation. His law firm has access to a combined 30 years of legal experience and to a team of experts that have successfully conducted over 100 trials.

When Mr. Galan is not in the courtroom he enjoys volunteering at various charities, exercising and practicing MMA and spending time with his friends and family.  He is an active member of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association and a member in good standing at the Law Society of Upper Canada.
